The artist of this picture at 6:50 is a genius. I feel so bad for those orcs. It may be in their nature to be evil and ultimately to be self destructive, but they never had a choice, no freedom. They were either turned to be this way or created like this and have no free will. In a sense, they are worse than animals, and it's not their fault. An animal has no concept of evil or vengeance or ego. They just do what their instincts tell them. The orcs may have a concept of evil or vengeance or ego, or not. Their instinct is to distrust and follow the strongest leader, and possibly to hate everything that doesn't align with their emperor's goal. It's an interesting thought to compare this situation with us in real life and whether we have free will or not, when we're all just victims of our surroundings and chemicals in our bodies. I feel sad for them, and I would be weak and try to help them, regardless of their nature.

Seeing how influenced by Catholicism Tolkien's work is, i could see Sauran's spirit drifting and making evil whispers as an allegory for Lucifer's work in corrupting man. He did say that the "Red Book" was a history of our past, and that we live in the 6th age.

Something one needs to keep in mind, is that Saruman is a maia, an angel. He personally knows god, Saruman knows there's a plan for everything, even if he doesn't know it, and Saruman knows that one day this world will come to an end, and he'll still exist. When looked at that way, is it any wonder that Saruman wanted to prove his methods were the best? That when all the Ainur get together after the world has ended, the others will look at him and acknowledge he obviously was the wisest?

In other words, a Hungry Ghost, wandering in the Bardo.

It's worth noting that there's a Battle of Armageddon analogue that's prophesied in the Silmarillion. In "Dagor Dagorath" Morgoth is able to escape from the Void and wreaks havoc before making one last stand against the Valar. It's unclear whether Sauron is able to rejoin his old master for this final battle, but it certainly can't be ruled out.

There’s too much wrong with the Hobbit movies. Peter Jackson’s additions in the Lord of the Rings movies were inspired, but in the Hobbit it’s trite. The amount of times a troll gets oneshot instead of being a major problem is one irritation I find degrading to the Fellowship for instance.

The look of Sauron when he was alive is one of the few artistic choices in the movies I was not a fan of. I feel he could have looked way cooler. Even the Witch-king of Angmar looked better than Sauron. Which doesn't seem right.

I have a logic question: If parts of Saurons malice were in the one Ring and it was consumed by the lava of Mount Doom, wouldnt that mean that this part of his spirit is trapped exactly there in the mountain, making it cursed forever?

It works. I think the books are fabulous, and J.R.R. Tolkien was a genius, but I feel the same about Peter Jackson's films. Peter was an artist and a genius in his own right. He knew one cannot pull something directly from a book, but rather adaptation is required to bring something to film. He did this brilliantly. I don't feel bad about the changes he made. I still loved the films! It's Rings of Power that is a flippin ' disgrace to Tolkien's vision.

Haven't seen anyone else say the obvious here. But Peter Jackson pretty much had to show the ring over the armour at the start. The enemy of the films might be "Sauron" in name but it's actually the ring and pretty sure they say that in the behind the scenes stuff. Most of the film work and decisions were on how to get audiences accustomed to the ring and its powers. And so it had to be visually shown.
